on healing

I never imagined
in those days filled with fears and tears and
aches so heavy it felt like my heart might crumble
that one day we would be here.
Here in this place where home feels warm and
things feel a little more right than they used to.
A reality I thought was too far gone
a dream that would forever be a dream
that felt senseless to even hope for.
But here we are
the goodness of God breathing life into
hope on its last breath.

-from my notes app, October 2022

(to my family, and to every weary heart. hope is not too far gone.)

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)

  2. The positivity and hope that this blog post exudes is truly inspiring. It’s amazing how far you’ve come from those difficult times and how much you’ve grown as a person.

The question I have for you is, what was the turning point that brought you to this place of feeling like “home feels warm, and things feel a little more right than they used to”? Was there a specific experience or event that sparked this shift in perspective? As a writer myself, I love getting the details on the specific moments of inspiration behind a piece from my fellow artists!

Hi Kiddo Elliot, thanks so much for stopping by! 🙂 That’s a great question! I’m not sure if there was an exact moment…it was a five-year-long process of healing. I think it was a lot of little moments that added up–all the hours processing in therapy sessions, all the difficult conversations, all the tear-filled prayers. I credit it entirely to the work of God’s hands–I believe that He not only exists, but that He is a personal, knowable God of redemption. I believe He’s a master at repurposing pain into something far more beautiful than we could ever comprehend! Regarding “things feel a little more right than they used to,” that comes from a sense of settling into new, healthier patterns. Five years ago, an event happened that shook up quite a bit in my life, but now it’s like the pieces have fallen in better places now, if that makes sense!

      1. It totally makes sense. And you truly perfectly encapsulate how I wish we all could come to feel and understand God right now. I know each of us will eventually, in our own right time. It has been for sure the rock of my life, getting to know God better and better, and I know just how you feel about how He sems to work all things for our good. Thanks for sharing your inspiration. So, basically, this brief line captures years of wisdom gained, then? Wow.
